Maybe you have done therapy before. It helped, up to a point. You learned some ways to cope with anxiety or stress, and the deeper questions never really got touched. Who am I? What do I actually want? Why does the same pattern keep returning in my relationships, my work, my moods?
Depth-oriented therapy is built for those questions.
Jungian and psychodynamic work looks underneath the symptom to what is driving it. Rather than only managing anxiety, depression, or anger, we work to understand where they come from and what they are asking of you. I find that each of us, in our own way, is seeking to find our unique voice and have it come forth in our relationships, work, and interests. Anxiety, depression, loss, and stress can keep us from hearing that inner voice of guidance. My goal in this work is to help you hear yours, and use it to chart your own direction.
In practice, this is not a silent, withholding kind of therapy. I balance empathetic listening with honest feedback, and I give direction when direction is needed. I say what I see, and we look at it together. Depth work also does not mean abandoning the practical. When it serves our work I draw on the other approaches I have trained in, from cognitive behavioral therapy to family systems, because insight and useful tools are not opposites. Many people who did not gain much from previous therapy have made progress with this active, engaged approach.
This work goes well with people who want more than symptom management: more meaning, more depth, a life that feels genuinely their own. It is usually longer term than problem-focused counseling, because it is doing something different. I enjoy working with men who want direct feedback and honest guidance, and with anyone standing at one of life’s turning points, asking what comes next.
